Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York announces 2016 details

Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York is returning this year for it’s fourth annual event.



Taking place between April 29th and May 22nd, it plays host to names including ANOHNI, Spike Lee, Kamasi Washington and Dizzee Rascal, who will perform his classic album ‘Boy In Da Corner’ in full.



The highlights of the programme read:



+ ANOHNI will premiere the live show for her album, Hopelessness, with a band that includes Oneohtrix Point Never on May 18-19.

+ Kamasi Washington, Pharoah Sanders, and the Sun Ra Arkestra will perform on May 8.

+ Dizzee Rascal will perform his debut album, Boy in Da Corner, in full on May 6.

+ A conversation with Spike Lee, moderated by Nelson George on May 2.

+ A beatmaker roundtable with Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, and Sonny Digital where the producers explain the secrets behind their hits and later perform them, on April 30.

+ Glenn Branca will perform his 8th and 10th Symphonies (The Mysteries) and his 12th Symphony (Total Sexus) with contributing guitarists on May 16.

+ Diamanda Galás will perform new music on May 10-12. 

+ “Last Night a DJ Saved My Soul” explores the connection between house music and gospel with Floorplan, DJ Pierre, Ann Nesby of Sounds of Blackness, + Joubert Singers, Terrence Parker, Kenny Bobien, Slow To Speak, Budgie, and more on May 22.

+ The NYC premiere of KIKI, a film about the city’s ballroom subculture, on April 29.

+ An audiovisual installation of Mark Pritchard’s Under the Sun, May 12-15.
