serpentwithfeet has announced a new theatrical dance show, ‘Heart of Brick’.
Showcasing seven queer Black performers and featuring live music from serpentwithfeet, it tells the story of a blossoming romance between two men in a Black gay nightclub.
The project is a collaborative effort, co-penned by celebrated poet Donte Collins, choreographed by Raja Feather Kelly, and directed by Wu Tsang. The event is produced by The Joyce Theatre Foundation.
“The dance floor has been a medium for Black queer people to decompress and build community. Going out has given me incentive to go inward and I am a better person because of it. Engaging the body is essential to engaging the spirit. I have Proof,” serpentwithfeet explains.
‘Heart of Brick’ will stage its international premiere at the Kampnagel Festival in Hamburg, Germany, from the 10th to the 13th of August. Soon after, from the 15th to the 22nd of September, it will make its initial US appearance at The Joyce Theater in New York City, with a complete run of shows across the US to follow.
