Shamir has returned with starry-eyed new one ‘On My Own’
Soaked in fuzzy lo-fi guitars and sounds but with a joyous dash of pop swagger added for good measure, it’s a fizzing return and pointer to what comes next
Speaking about ‘On My Own’ to Rolling Stone, Shamir explained: “I wrote ‘On My Own’ last summer after a breakup as a way to remind myself that while it sucked to lose someone I was getting used to, at least I’m an introvert. But considering the pandemic, it’s also morphed into an accidental quarantine anthem, especially for the people who live alone like me.”
‘On My Own’ is the first track to be taken from Shamir’s anticipated new album (set to be Shamir’s 7th studio release in 5 years) – and follows on from the self-released ‘Cataclysm’ released in March. Following on with Rolling Stone on what to expect, Shamir has pointed to it being his “most commercial-sounding” since the release of 2015 debut ‘Ratchet’.
