Surprise! Again! Taylor Swift has announced the release of her ninth album, ‘evermore’.
A companion record to this year’s lockdown masterpiece ‘folklore’, it’ll drop at midnight EST (that’s 5am GMT tomorrow, Friday 11th December), and features collaborations with Haim, Bon Iver and The National.
Talking about the shock move, Swifty explains: “I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.”
Working again alongside collaborators Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB (that’s William Bowery, the pen name of her boyfriend Joe Alwyn) and Justin Vernon, it’s arriving as close as possible to Taylor’s 31st Birthday. “Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now,” she reveals. “You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something!”
The record contains fifteen tracks, with another two deluxe songs on a physical edition to follow. The album’s opening track ‘willow’ will also be getting a video, which also drops at midnight EST tonight.
I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore.
