Teeth Machine have shared an intimate new track, ‘Penny’, along with a lo-fi music video.
It is the London five-piece’s third single, following debut track ‘Drive By DK’ and last month’s daunting offering, ‘Gumball’. Written and produced by the band and mixes by Tom Carmichael, the new cut is soon to be available on 7” vinyl, which you can pre-order here.
Lead guitarist Gray Rimmer says that ‘Penny’, “revolves around the sensation of being so wrapped up in your predicament, and so desperate to escape it, that you can miss what’s in front of you in the pursuit of that escape.”
“I was listening to Talk Talk’s ‘New Grass’ a lot the year it was written, as well as the compositions of Mark Pritchard and quite a bit of folk and American Primitive (Robbie Basho, Peter Lang etc),” they add on the songs inspirations. “Arthur [Bently, guitarist] was also really into Steve Reich’s ‘Different Trains’, the sonics of which inspired a big part of the production process. A similarity in all these works is those themes of emotive spaciousness; pacing and release arise a lot, with a melodic, heart-stirring quality that propels them along.”
