The 1975 are counting down – is this where and when we’ll get to hear possible new track ‘Part of the Band’?

  • Stephen Ackroyd
  • June 24, 2022

The 1975 are counting down to something.

Yesterday, a countdown appeared on the band’s official website. Originally running down to 6pm on 6th July, overnight it switched to a day later – 7th July (come on guys, it’s simple maths – Ed). That’s the date that’s appeared on teaser posters for what we presume is a new track, ‘Part of the Band’.

UPDATE! The counter now says 13 days. That’s 7th July, as expected. Hottest Record confirmed? @the1975 pic.twitter.com/Icl03Qk66f

Interested pop watchers will note that 6pm is the current time for BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record to drop, suggesting there’s a chance we’ll be hearing not just new music from the band within a couple of weeks, but also an interview about what’s coming next. All very exciting, no?

The news of ‘Part of the Band’ first broke when posters appeared around London featuring the band’s logo, a photo of frontman Matty Healy, and a date – 7th July. They were followed up a week later with new posters, also featuring the text ‘Part of the Band’. Though The 1975 have yet to confirm exactly what it is, we presume it’s a new track from their forthcoming 5th album.
