Remember that Drive Like I Do album-slash-EP-slash-something – a reworking of an earlier incarnation of The 1975 – that Matty Healy was teasing as the UK headed into lockdown back in 2020?
The one he talked about in our cover feature at the time. The one that was definitely coming out, and was finished, and then didn’t?
The one everyone has been saying wasn’t real, as they worked towards the release of their new album ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language‘?
Well. Turns out it DOES exist, and he’s played us all a bit of it as proof.
Taking to his Instagram story earlier today (Thursday 22nd September) to thank fans for their reaction to yesterday’s new track ‘All I Need To Hear’, he went on to refute claims that the DLID project wasn’t a real thing.
Stating it was shelved because of ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’ deserving the limelight, he went on to prove its provenance by showing both a grab of some audio files, and playing a bit of one of the songs.
Under a header of W LCOME MIXES, there are four mp3 files. I’V BEEN BAKING 110321, That’s not even the craziest thing that went down 110321, Wintering 08 March 2021 and Nice Sweater (thank you means a lot) 11th March 21_01.
One of those tracks – ‘Wintering’ – has gone on to appear on ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’. The final one, ‘Nice Sweater’, got a bit of an airing, including a bit of the vocal.
In a caption, Matty confirmed, “I will put it out at some point.”
So – Drive Like I Do – possibly still a thing. You can check out the video below.
Um. Drive Like I Do? With vocals? And it may still come out at some point after the new @the1975 album? Oh golly. Oh gosh. pic.twitter.com/p4xEpEfS7K
