The Vaccines have announced a new EP, set to drop next month.
Titled ‘Planet of the Youth’, the new collection follows up on last year’s album ‘Back to Love City’, and lands on 8th April.
They’re previewing it with another new single ‘Disaster Girl’, after dropping ‘Thunder Fever’ – which also appears on the new EP – last month.
Speaking about the song, Justin Young explains: “I’d written down the title after seeing the NFT of the original ‘Disaster Girl’ meme sell for $500,000. It all seemed very apocalyptic to me and fit in with this strange world of the planet of the youth that I was starting to build in my head. When you first hear it sung, Disaster Girl sounds like some kind of superhero, but when you realise there is a comma between the two words then the meaning obviously flips. Sometimes we’re our own worst enemies in our most meaningful relationships but we don’t see it until everything has gone up in flames.”
Recorded at The Pool and produced by Fryars (Mark Ronson, Pharrell) and mixed by Matt Wiggins (Glass Animals, Florence & The Machine), the EP will land ahead of a UK tour next month.
“Playing live is at the core of what we do,” Justin says. “It’s how we built our fan base and it’s where we thrive. Releasing music in a world without gigs felt a little like releasing it into a black hole so we couldn’t wait to get back into the studio to record an EP of songs we knew we’d be playing live. We can’t wait to hit the road and play them for everybody so that they can all come to life in the ways they were intended to.“
