The Weeknd‘s fans have something to look forward to. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the star revealed that he has been in the studio and is working on new music.
This news comes as The Weeknd celebrates the one-year anniversary of his most recent album, 2022’s Dawn FM. To mark the occasion, he released a new music video for one of the album’s tracks, ‘Is There Someone Else?’
The Weeknd also talked about his Oscar-shortlisted theme song, “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength),” which he wrote for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. He explained that he drew inspiration from the Avatar franchise, as he watched the first film in 2009 during what he called “the darkest time of my life.”
“The best part about writing the song was getting notes from James and making sure that all the lyrics and the tones fit the themes of the film,” he told the publication. “I think I rewrote the song maybe six times to make sure it was perfect.”
The “Blinding Lights” singer also discussed the potential Academy Award nomination for his song, expressing his gratitude for the recognition. He also briefly touched on the Grammys, which he boycotted in 2022 after his album After Hours was snubbed. Nevertheless, he said the Oscars “definitely feel different” from the Recording Academy and that he is “just grateful” for any kind of recognition he gets.
