The Weeknd has already achieved massive success with his single ‘Blinding Lights’, but now it has grabbed an especially shiny musical bauble.
After spending over 100 weeks in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, the song has now become the most streamed song of all time on Spotify, overtaking Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’. This makes The Weeknd the only artist to have two songs that have reached over three billion streams on the platform.
The record-breaking success of ‘Blinding Lights’ has also seen the track become the biggest US Billboard Hot 100 single of all time, overtaking Chubby Checker’s 1960 hit ‘The Twist’. The Weeknd celebrated the news on Twitter on New Year’s Eve, posting screencaps from the song’s video.
The Weeknd recently released a new track for the movie Avatar: The Way Of Water, titled ‘Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)’. He has also announced dates for his ‘After Hours Til Dawn’ tour, which includes two shows at London Stadium on July 7 and 8, as well as a newly added Wembley Stadium show.
