The xx have confirmed a deluxe digital and vinyl edition of their second LP, ‘Coexist’, for the record’s upcoming tenth anniversary.
The 2012 release’s 11 tracks followed the London-based trio’s 2009 delf-titled debut to cement the indie-rock group’s status as a global breakout success; it took the band from intimate venues to international sell-out live shows, leading to festival curation and symphony collaboration for Romy Madly Croft, Oliver Sim, and Jamie Smith.
“That’s the special thing of having records, is that they are a concrete diary, a moment in our friendship,” The xx stated in a special episode of Matt Wilkinson’s Apple Music show, Interludes Radio, which you can listen back to here. “The fact that it’s been 10 years and reflecting on that time passing and the music belonging to other people in those 10 years – ‘Coexist’ means something to us – but the connections that people have to those songs now.”
They continue to reflect on a decade of memories: “Fleeting moments of people saying they got married walking down the aisle to ‘Angels’, that is very surreal and special to be part of those people’s lives.”
‘Coexist’ will be released on limited clear vinyl, and the expanded digital edition will include live renditions of album cuts ‘Angels, ‘Chained’, and ‘Reunion & Sunset’. Both are set to arrive on January 13th, 2023.
