Unknown Mortal Orchestra have announced a new instrumental album.
A press release explains that ‘IC-01 Hanoi’ comes from the sessions for the band’s previous full-length, ‘Sex & Food’, when Ruban Nielson, his longtime collaborator Jacob Portrait and his brother Kody Nielson, found themselves in the Vietnamese city of Hanoi at Phu Sa Studios. Recording with local musician Minh Nguyen on Sáo Trúc, Đàn Môi, and Vietnamese Percussion and Nielson’s father, Chris, on Flugelhorn, Saxophone and keyboards, they laid down seven tracks described as “a sonic distillation of the band’s influences in Jazz, Krautrock and the avant-garde”.
Probably not many pop bangers, then.
The news comes alongside the album’s penultimate track, ‘Hanoi 6’. Coming in at just under ten minutes, you can check it out below.
‘IC-01 Hanoi’ is set for release on 26th October.
