Romy, one-third of The xx, made a stunning appearance in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge yesterday (January 17th), performing a two-track solo session, beginning with her Fred Again.. collaboration ‘Strong’.
She then put her own unique spin on Stormzy’s single ‘FIREBABE’ from his third studio album ‘This Is What I Mean’, a track which Romy holds in high regard. “I love hearing people do a different take on a classic or current pop hit,” she said. “You always hear people do stuff that you might not expect.” She went on to add: “I really love that Stormzy song, and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. And he’s such a lovely guy.”
Romy’s mashup of ‘FIREBABE’ and Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’ also featured parts of Alice Deejay’s 1999 hit ‘Better Off Alone’. You can watch the Live Lounge performances below.
