Bastille are teasing something – perhaps a new song ‘Quarter Past Midnight’?

  • Dork News Desk
  • May 2, 2018
It turns out midnight on 2nd May was indie’s Great Buzz Apocalypse.

Fans of hype-y fanbases will know that, over the past few years, there are two in particular who have risen to dominance.

One, obviously, is the rabid, insatiable gang aligning themselves with The 1975. Understandably obsessed with their heroes, they’ll delve deeper than any other to follow the threads. So, when the band broke cover with a whole bunch of enigmatic teasing as the clock struck midnight, all eyes went their way.

The other major powerhouse, though, is no less committed. As Matty and co. revved up their ‘Music For Cars’, Bastille were also starting their engines on something new – and they’re being just as elusive with the facts.

On the minute, every minute, from midnight until 12:15am, the band’s socials pushed a new image – each one featuring a digital clock. The band’s avatar is now set to display 00:15, and we’re pretty sure what that means.

Delving deep, it looks like there may be a new track titled ‘Quarter Past Midnight’. Fans finding a link on Universal Music’s Italian website have scoped out a release date of 9th May (that’s next Wednesday), as well as a suggestion the track features backing vocals from our mate and yours, Bastille live member Charlie Barnes and Kianja.

It’s the last part that’s especially interesting, as Kianja has previously featured on a preview from part four of the band’s ‘Other People’s Heartache’ mixtape.

On the other hand, we know Bastille have finished work on their third album. We also know they’ve got festival appearances coming up this summer – including a headline slot at Neverworld. We’re expecting both the record and mixtape to drop this year – and while traditionally you’d expect editions of ‘Other People’s Heartache’ to come between albums, all bets are off.

We’d expect to know more, and have new music from Bastille, this time next week. Until then, enjoy your Big Indie Summer hype.
