Yannis Philippakis is in the studio… but not for Foals

"We’re not in a hurry," he says of his main band's return.
Yannis Philippakis has been in the studio, just not with Foals in mind.

Working with Tony Allen, the drummer for Fela Kuti, he’s been experimenting a little. Speaking to NME ahead of a DJ set at The Maccabees’ Felix White’s latest YALA club night, Yannis explains: “I started doing some tracks with him last year and then I was on tour. So I went back to finish them in Paris. So he’s writing a record and hopefully some of the tracks we’ve been working on will be on that album.”

“I have to do something so this is the perfect thing to do that isn’t Foals,” he added. “It’s been a real honour to get to write with him. That’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve been writing bits here and there, but I don’t know if it’s for Foals yet. We’re not in a hurry.”

Foals are set to headline Citadel in London’s Victoria Park on 16th July. Tickets are on sale now.
