Years & Years scrapped an album worth of songs when the coronavirus pandemic began last year, according to vocalist Olly Alexander.

Talking to NME, Olly revealed the band had a whole load of new material done, but binned it off when COVID-19 hit. Don’t worry too much though – he’s currently working on a new album.

“The pandemic happened and I went back to square one and just wanted to make a lot of upbeat, euphoric dance tunes,” he reveals.

The direction of the album will be partly influenced by new Russell T Davies drama It’s A Sin, which Olly stars in. “That’s what I’ve been focused on the majority of 2020 doing,” he explains. “Definitely the show had an impact on that. Although I don’t think it’s going to sound ‘80s, I’m trying to channel that energy and dancefloor transcendence.”
