Girls Aloud are a British-Irish pop girl group formed through the ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The original members included Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh. By 2012, they were recognized as Britain's biggest selling girl group of the 21st century, with over 4.3 million singles and 4.0 million albums sold in the UK. The group achieved twenty top-ten singles on the UK singles chart, including four number-one hits. They released seven albums certified by the BPI, two of which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. Girls Aloud received five Brit Award nominations and won Best Single in 2009 for 'The Promise'. Their primary musical style was pop, with experimentation in electropop, dance-pop, and dance-rock. The group's collaborations with Brian Higgins and the production team Xenomania received critical acclaim, credited with their innovative approach to mainstream pop music.
