Indigo De Souza – Precipice

3/5

Label: Loma Vista
Released: 25th July 2025

Indigo De Souza has always excelled at mixing vulnerability with radiant pop hooks, and on ‘Precipice’, she leans even further into affirmation, crafting a laidback collection that feels like a warm breeze on a spring afternoon. Gone are the jagged edges and raw confessions of her earlier work; in their place is something gentler, more contented, but no less compelling.

Early track ‘Crush’ reinforces the tone with sweet simplicity. Over breezy guitar strums and shuffling percussion, De Souza sings, “I think I’ve got a crush on you”, her voice equal parts hesitant and glowing. It’s catchy in that quiet, insistent way: a melody that lodges itself in your head not with bombast, but with a soft, earnest charm.

Much of ‘Precipice’ follows that thread. These are songs about connection, desire and the small moments that make life feel big — a look across the room, the hush of early morning light through a window. De Souza’s gift lies in making simple feelings feel profound, rooted in lived-in humanity rather than hollow platitudes.

The production mirrors that approach: tracks like ‘Soft Light’ and ‘Lemonade’ hum with warmth, full of space and air, giving De Souza’s voice plenty of room to radiate. Even when the tempo lifts, as on the gently propulsive ‘Gold Threads’, it feels effortless, never forced.

This is a record that invites you in slowly, that rewards repeat listens with little lyrical gems and melodic twists hidden beneath its sunny exterior. ‘Precipice’ is a testament to De Souza’s evolution as a songwriter; not a dramatic leap forward, but a gentle step onto solid ground.
