Bethany Cosentino – Natural Disaster

4/5

Label: Concord Records
Released: 28th July 2023

Having risen through the ranks as half of Best Coast, Bethany Cosentino breaks off and bares all with her solo debut, ‘Natural Disaster’. Setting aside her LA cool-girl aesthetic, she finds a new start exploring her more vulnerable side and emerges more down to earth than ever.

While her work with Best Coast was definitive of the surf-rock style, ‘Natural Disaster’ sees Bethany take to Nashville. The opening title-track brings distorted guitars and a big chorus reminiscent of her previous work, but the album leans more heavily into a new country sound as it goes on.

Her croons remain beautiful and thought-provoking, and her talent shines through; there is a definite sense of indulgence as she explores her sound. This is just the start for an artist rekindling her individuality.
