PVA – Toner EP

Riding the rollercoaster of emotions that love is.

Label: Big Dada
Released: 20th November 2020

When PVA debuted with ‘Divine Intervention’, it was a godsend. Now after Speedy Wunderground’s blessed baby has left its mother label and signed to Big Dada, the expectations for their debut EP have rocketed beyond belief.

As primarily a live band, they’ve managed to pack their dance-punk ala LCD Soundsystem on MDMA formula into an easy to swallow and hard-hitting, two-sided EP, ‘Toner’. Playing the genre-game to their strongest points with drowsy guitars and auto-tuned vocals, PVA have found a recipe for an electronic-ridden techno euphoria.

Inspired by Red Dead Redemption, ‘Talks’, a back-and-forth dialogue-like track, tackles the relationship situation when we water-down and ditch our true feelings out of fear to get hurt. PVA let friends get wild with remixes for this one. Lynks takes the line ‘you don’t wanna talk’ as a dare to drag you on the dancefloor, while Mura Masa’s climatic mix revolts around previously unfeatured ‘best is yet to come’ lyrical prophecy.

‘Sleek Form’ encapsulates the ethereal alien rave experience, nagging you to get lost in the music, before ‘Exhaust/Surroundings’ consumes what’s left of the night with dopy, worn-out beats. For those wanting to go deeper and darker, Daniel Fox from Girl Band’s remix will take you there.

Ironically, in a year when we can’t go out, London’s best new-wave dance formation emerges – so ditch the clubs and dance the day away in the privacy of your own den.
