renforshort – Off Saint Dominique EP

Deeply personal and just as relevant.

Label: Interscope
Released: 4th June 2021

You can say what you want about the younger generations, but what they have mastered to perfection is the art of speaking their mind. At least online. In keeping with the heart-on-sleeve ethos of her phenomenal debut EP, on ‘Off Saint Dominique’, renforshort doesn’t hold back on relatable commentary (‘virtual reality’) and heartfelt confessionals (‘exception’, a song about falling in love with your high school teacher btw. Does is get any more personal than that?). “I’m just telling how it is,” she proclaims on snarky opener ‘wannabe’ and instantly puts the entire record into perspective.

Her sonics are snappy and anthemic: muddy riffs, smooth beats, defiant choruses; her vocals flawless and on point. But what really defines renforshort is her striking take on lyricism that continues to impress with a refreshing level of self-reflection.

Deeply personal and just as relevant, ‘Off Saint Dominique’ is the work of an artist who views music as a form of therapy and makes a point of writing songs that she would have needed to hear growing up. Whether you need to release some tension, scream into a pillow or cry a couple of silent tears, renforshort asks “what’s your damage” and prescribes a bittersweet remedy.
