Released: 20th August 2021

Edinburgh’s exciting and energetic quartet swim school fuse the sweet tones of indie rock with an explosively atmospheric combination of grunge and dream-pop to form a revelatory sound that you can’t afford to miss on their debut EP, ‘Making Sense Of It All’.

The band have utilised the space of a pandemic to bring a new level of scope to their previously indie-pop brand, with comparisons to Wolf Alice being aptly drawn from their shared ambition for developing high-rising sonic environments – a feat that few acts can accomplish on a similar level.

‘Let Me Inside Your Head’ introduces the introspective themes explored here with a desperate, pleading chorus precisely delivered over a screeching instrumental backing. Roaring basslines bubble underneath the surface of a taunting momentum that pierces the ceiling on fiery and volatile moments like ‘Outside’; turbulent and addictive riffs throughout snap and soar on a whim.

This monumental step forward for swim school flexes a perfect balance of dynamics, tone and texture that signifies promise and potential with a release where drawling guitars can whip up into whirlwinds of vigorous sounds that offer far more expansive emotion than they have any right to. Using their own words, this EP is truly “everything we wanted” from a rock band that is destined to become so much more.
