U.S. Girls is the recording name used by Toronto-based singer-songwriter and all-round musical whizz Meg Remy to create brilliantly inventive avant-pop. ‘Bless This Mess’ is her eighth album and continues her exploration into combining bright, funky pop with just enough hints of weirdness to make it compelling.
Opening track ‘Only Daedalus’ has a funky strut that immediately hooks you in followed by fuzzy scuzzy and electro on ‘Futures Bet’ before really showing off on the brilliant six-minute space disco odyssey of ‘Tux (Your Body Fills Me, Boo)’ which sounds like Kylie. Always a very good thing.
U.S. Girls is pop filtered through Meg’s unique prism and ‘Bless This Mess’ is another hit from an artist who goes slightly under the radar but delivers every time.
