London-based five-piece
Truthpaste have put out their debut EP
'I Don't Know Either' through Dirty Hit and Memorials Of Distinction. A new video for the track
'Never Gonna Give' accompanies the release.
Originally forming in Manchester in 2022, the group have since relocated to London, where they have become a fixture of the capital's live circuit. Truthpaste are Esmé Lark (lead vocals, saxophone), Theo Murchie (guitar, vocals), Claire Sun (violin, vocals), Euan McNeill (bass, guitar, vocals), and James Ballarò (synth, lapsteel, guitar), with a computer drum completing the line-up.
Discussing what they wanted the EP to achieve, the band explain: "In 4 songs it's tricky, but hopefully the EP goes some way to representing the many aspects of Truthpaste so far and prepares people for our live show a bit better - we have fun, we dance and we do a bit of folk but we also rock out."
On the origins of 'Never Gonna Give', Esme says: "I wrote Never Gonna Give in my bedroom post lockdown, it was originally in a very strange key and much more sinister. Theo saw me singing it alone at a venue in Manchester called Fuel many moons ago and he deemed it Truthpaste worthy. It's been through a lot of iterations, but we injected the signature Truthpaste fun and it became this big epic song."
