
Nicholas James Murphy, born on 23 June 1988, is an Australian singer and songwriter known professionally as Chet Faker. He released the extended play Thinking in Textures in 2012 and signed with Downtown Records in the United States. In October 2012, he received the Breakthrough Artist of the Year award, and Thinking in Textures won Best Independent Single/EP at the Australian Independent Records Awards. His cover of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" was featured in a 2013 Super Bowl commercial for Beck's Sapphire. Murphy's debut studio album, Built on Glass, was released in April 2014 and debuted at number one on the Australian ARIA Charts. Three tracks from the album, including "Talk Is Cheap," ranked in the top ten of Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2014. In September 2016, Murphy ceased using the Chet Faker moniker and began releasing music under his birth name, starting with two singles later that year and the Missing Link extended play in 2017.
