'To the Ghosts' marks the duo's first release in two years.

Cults is an American indie pop band formed in New York City in 2010. The band consists of multi-instrumentalists Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion. They gained initial recognition with their debut extended play, Cults 7", released on Bandcamp in 2010. The band signed with Lily Allen's record label In the Name Of, an imprint of Sony Music, to release their self-titled debut studio album in 2011. Their song "Bad Things" was sampled by rapper J. Cole for his 2013 single "She Knows," on which they were credited as featured artists. Cults has released four additional albums: Static (2013), Offering (2017), Host (2020), and To the Ghosts (2024), along with the EP Motels (2018).
