Jacob Collier, born on 2 August 1994, is an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and educator. His music combines jazz with elements from other genres and frequently employs reharmonisations and close harmony. Collier is known for energetic live performances in which he often conducts audience participation through singing or percussion. In 2013, his split-screen video covers of songs such as Stevie Wonder's 'Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing' gained popularity on YouTube. In 2014, he befriended Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones after they viewed his Stevie Wonder cover. Collier chose to remain independent and produced his first album, singing all harmonies and playing all instruments. His debut album, 'In My Room', was released in 2016 and was recorded, arranged, performed, and produced at his family home in Finchley, North London. Beginning in 2018, Collier worked on 'Djesse', a four-volume, 50-song project featuring collaborations with over twenty-five artists and ensembles, including the Metropole Orkest. The first volume, 'Djesse Vol. 1', was released in December 2018.
