Lauren Spencer Smith is a Canadian singer-songwriter born on September 28, 2003, in Port Alberni, British Columbia, and based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. She released a live album titled Unplugged, Vol. 1 in 2019, which was nominated for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2020. In 2020, she appeared as a contestant on the eighteenth season of American Idol, where she placed in the top 20. In 2022, her self-released song 'Fingers Crossed' gained international recognition after a demo of the track went viral on TikTok, reaching the top 20 in several countries and the top 10 in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. She also released the song 'Flowers' in 2022, which charted in multiple countries. Both songs appeared on her 2023 debut studio album, Mirror.
