"Everything we believed in feels true": SPEED on love, loss and legacy
SPEED’s new EP 'All My Angels' was born from unimaginable grief, and yet it might be the band’s most life-affirming work to date.
SPEED is a Japanese female vocal and dance group consisting of Hiroko Shimabukuro, Eriko Imai, Takako Uehara, and Hitoe Arakaki. All four members attended the Okinawa Actors School, which also trained artists such as Namie Amuro and MAX. The group debuted on August 5, 1996, and quickly achieved commercial success. They sold over 20 million singles and albums within approximately three years and eight months, making them one of the most successful girl groups in Asia. SPEED disbanded on March 31, 2000, to pursue solo careers and further studies. After disbanding, they reunited several times for charity events. On August 20, 2008, the group announced plans for a permanent reunion. They officially returned to the music scene on November 12, 2008, with the single 'Ashita no Sora.'
