The Breeders are an American alternative rock band based in Dayton, Ohio. The band was formed in 1989 by Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly as a side-project alongside their full-time bands, the Pixies and Throwing Muses. Their debut album, Pod, was released in 1990, featuring Kim Deal, Tanya Donelly, bassist Josephine Wiggs, and drummer Britt Walford. Kelley Deal, Kim's twin sister, joined the band in 1992 to record the Safari EP, despite having no prior guitar experience. Following Donelly's departure to focus on her band Belly and Walford's exit, Kelley became the band's sole lead guitarist. Although Pod was not initially a commercial success, the band gained a following among indie rock fans and received praise from Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who cited the album as one of his favorites. The band continued to release music and perform, maintaining an active presence in the alternative rock scene.
