THE WAR AND TREATY

The War and Treaty is an American husband-and-wife duo consisting of singer-songwriters Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter. Their debut studio album, Healing Tide, was released in 2018 and received generally favorable reviews. Their second album, Hearts Town, came out in 2020 and included a collaboration with Emmylou Harris, as well as the single "Five More Minutes," which reached the top 40 on the Triple A chart. In 2022, they signed with Universal Music Group Nashville and released their major label debut, Lover's Game, in 2023. Their collaboration with Zach Bryan on the song "Hey Driver" reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2023, they became the first Black duo to be nominated for the Country Music Association Award for Duo of the Year and the first Black duo to be nominated for the Academy of Country Music Award for Duo of the Year. They received a nomination for "Vocal Duo of the Year" at the CMA Awards in 2024 and won an Emmy in 2025 for their work with the NFL's Tennessee Titans. The duo received two nominations for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. An upcoming biopic based on their lives is planned for release.
