XG is a Japanese group based in South Korea, formed by XGALX, a subsidiary of Avex. The group consists of seven members: JURIN, CHISA, HINATA, HARVEY, JURIA, MAYA and COCONA. They debuted on 18 March 2022 with the digital single Tippy Toes.
The group's name stands for "Xtraordinary Genes" and reflects its mission to inspire people around the world through music, performance and self-expression. Known for performing primarily in English, XG combines elements of hip-hop, R&B, pop and dance music while operating outside the traditional boundaries of both the Japanese and Korean music industries. Their international fanbase is known as "Alphaz".
Before their official debut, XG introduced themselves through a series of training and performance videos released by XGALX. These showcased the members' strengths in rap, dance and vocals, helping generate interest among global audiences.
Tippy Toes (2022)
XG officially debuted with Tippy Toes on 18 March 2022. The song introduced the group's confident image and performance-focused style, drawing attention for its polished production and English-language lyrics.
Later that year, XG released Mascara, which further established their identity through themes of confidence, independence and empowerment. The group also made its first appearance on South Korean music programs, introducing itself to a wider audience.
In November 2022, the group's rap line gained significant attention with Galz Xypher, a rap cypher performance that went viral online and highlighted the members' technical skills and charisma.
Shooting Star (2023)
In January 2023, XG released Shooting Star alongside Left Right. Both songs became major milestones in the group's career, earning international praise and expanding their audience beyond Asia. "Left Right" achieved notable success on international radio and streaming platforms, helping establish XG as a rising global act.
New DNA (2023)
XG released their debut EP, New DNA, in September 2023. The project was preceded by the pre-release single GRL GVNG, which showcased a more aggressive hip-hop-influenced sound. Additional singles included TGIF and New Dance.
The EP received positive reviews for its ambitious production, genre diversity and strong performances. It topped the Billboard Japan Hot Albums chart and received a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), becoming a major commercial breakthrough for the group.
AWE (2024)
In 2024, XG embarked on their first world tour, performing across Asia, North America and Europe. During this period, the group released a series of singles including WOKE UP, Something Ain't Right, IYKYK and UNDEFEATED, the latter created in collaboration with Riot Games for the video game Valorant.
These releases culminated in the group's second EP, AWE, released in November 2024. The project further expanded their musical range and reinforced their reputation for innovative visuals, high-level performances and genre experimentation.
THE CORE - 核 (2026)
In August 2025, XG announced their first full-length studio album, THE CORE - 核, scheduled for release on 23 January 2026. The announcement marked a significant milestone in the group's career as they prepared to move beyond the EP format for the first time.
The album was preceded by the single GALA, released in September 2025. Anticipation surrounding the project reflected the group's rapid growth and increasing influence within the global music scene.
Since their debut, XG has earned recognition for its multilingual approach, genre-blending sound and emphasis on performance. Their ability to bridge Japanese, Korean and international music markets has positioned them as one of the most distinctive global pop acts of their generation.
