The angle of this Zoom call has revealed perhaps too much of Fat Dog’s nostrils. It’s not something you really expect to see, but as they gear up to release their second album, they’re ensuring everyone becomes well acquainted with various angles of their faces. It makes sense, really - ‘Cancel Me (I’m Tired)’ is a far more close-up portrait than their debut.
“For the first record, I wouldn’t even try to write lyrics - I thought no one fucking listened to lyrics, to be fair. It’s probably why we got slated so hard. But for this, I was like, you know what? I’m actually going to try and write them down. I was trying to make something a bit more on the nose,” says frontman Joe Love, with bandmate Chris Hughes handily bringing the camera closer to Joe’s own nose to emphasise his point. A never-ending vat of skills, these lot. “I get bored of people talking about shit that I don’t even understand. It’s nice to be like, this is what this means. To be fair, I wrote a lot of fucking gibberish, but I tried to cut it down this time.”
