Badly Drawn Boy is the stage name of Damon Michael Gough, an English indie singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born on 2 October 1969. Gough adopted his stage name after a character in the show The Magic Ball, which he saw on television in 1995. Prior to choosing this name, he created business cards featuring a drawing by his nephew and a collage by himself. He met Andy Votel at the Generation X bar in Manchester, an encounter that contributed to the founding of Twisted Nerve Records. Gough is known for wearing beanie hats during public appearances, a habit that began early in his career.
