
Leslie Sebastian Charles, born on 21 January 1950, is a Trinidadian-British singer and songwriter known professionally as Billy Ocean. He achieved a series of hit songs in the UK and internationally between 1976 and 1988. His breakthrough came with the 1976 single 'Love Really Hurts Without You', and his second single, released under the stage name Billy Ocean, reached no. 2 in the UK and no. 3 in Australia. In 1977, his single 'Red Light Spells Danger' peaked at no. 2. His 1984 single 'Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)' reached no. 6 in the UK and entered the Billboard Hot 100 at no. 85, eventually peaking at no. 1 in the US, earning him the 1985 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. The song also charted in several other countries under different titles. In 1985, his single 'When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going' reached no. 1 in the UK and no. 2 in the US.
