Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, known professionally as Doechii, is an American rapper and singer born on August 14, 1998. Her songs gained popularity on TikTok in 2021, leading to recording contracts with Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records in 2022. In 2023, her single 'What It Is (Block Boy)' featuring Kodak Black became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. That year, she made her acting debut in the drama film Earth Mama. Her second mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal (2024), reached the top ten of the Billboard 200 and received critical acclaim. The mixtape won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, making her the third woman to win in that category. It included singles such as 'Nissan Altima', 'Boom Bap', and 'Denial Is a River'. Its bonus track, 'Anxiety', peaked within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 and its music video won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video. She also appeared on the remix of the Weeknd and Playboi Carti's 2025 single 'Timeless'.
