Slowdive is an English rock band formed in Reading, Berkshire, in 1989. The band includes Neil Halstead (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Rachel Goswell (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Christian Savill (guitars), Nick Chaplin (bass guitar), and Simon Scott (drums, guitars, electronics), all of whom performed on the band's early releases. Halstead is the primary songwriter. The band released several EPs before their debut album, Just for a Day, in 1991, followed by Souvlaki in 1993. They became prominent figures in the UK shoegaze scene of the early 1990s. After their third studio album, Pygmalion, in 1995, the group disbanded, with Scott, Savill, and Chaplin leaving prior to the breakup. The remaining members continued as Mojave 3, exploring folk and country influences. Slowdive reunited in 2014 to perform at the Primavera Sound festival and released a self-titled album in 2017, their first in 22 years. Their fifth studio album, Everything Is Alive, was released in 2023 and reached the top ten in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
