Villagers is an Irish indie folk band and the musical project of Conor J O'Brien, a singer-songwriter based in Dublin, Ireland. O'Brien is the sole long-term member and is known for his production, arrangements, and lyrics. The band gained prominence with the release of their debut album, Becoming a Jackal, in 2010, which was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize. Their second album, Awayland, was released in 2013, winning the Choice Music Prize and being shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. In 2015, O'Brien released the third album, Darling Arithmetic, and in 2016, the album won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Album. The band's fourth album, The Art of Pretending to Swim, was released in September 2018. Their fifth studio album, Fever Dreams, was released on 20 August 2021. Villagers have toured extensively in Ireland, the UK, and Europe, and have performed in the United States, Japan, Canada, and Australia. The band releases material through Domino Recording Co. and is recognized for their lyrical content and arrangements.
