John Cale

Memphis

From Animal Justice1977

Lyrics

Memphis

[Verse 1]

Long distance information, give me Memphis, Tennessee

Help me find the party trying to get in touch with me

She did not leave her number, but I know who placed the call

'Cause my uncle took the message and he wrote it on the wall

[Verse 2]

Help me, Information, more than that I cannot add

Except how much I miss her and all the fun we had

Her home is on the south side, high up on a ridge

Just about a half a mile from the Mississippi Bridge

[Verse 3]

Help me, information, more than that I cannot add

Except how much I miss her and all the fun we had

Tore apart because her mum did not agree

Tore apart our happy home in Memphis Tennessee

[Verse 4]

Well the last time that I saw Marie, she was waving me goodbye

The hurry home drops on her cheek trickling from her eye

But Marie she's only six years old, Information, please

Try to put me through to her in Memphis, Tennessee

Charli xcx leads the 2026 UK Music Video Awards nominations

Charli xcx has nine nominations across six videos as the UK Music Video Awards reveal their 2026 shortlists.

Where to start with Patti Smith’s albums, whether you want poetry or punk

Start with Horses for Patti Smith’s fusion of poetry and punk, then follow the route that suits your ear: harder rock, immediate songs, later reflection or spoken-word experiments.

Who created Charli xcx’s visual world for ‘Music, Fashion, Film’?

From Torso’s Paris-shot ‘SS26’ to Aidan Zamiri’s album artwork and ‘Camera’ video, here are the documented creative credits behind Charli xcx’s ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ era.

Charli XCX has collaborated with John Cale on new track 'House' for the 'Wuthering Heights' soundtrack - and there's an entire album coming

It's part of a whole album set for release in early December.
