[Fat Mike speaking]
Alright
I don't need the click
I'm just going to go right into it
Alright, push it
Grieving Soto
A man that we were all privileged to know
Why’d you have to be the first Adolescent to go?
There would have been so many less people cryin’
Had it been Rikk, Alfie, Frank, Casey, or even Derek O’Brien
I’m so grateful that before your end
I told you you’re my hero and my treasured friend
Bobby Pyn
Never told anyone he hustled for Paul Lynn
Or that the Black Beauties hе took were empty shеlls
He clearly knew what image sells
The beard he grew was Michelle Bell's
To be so charismatic, thought he had to play the addict
Was his suicide from drugs cuz the L.A. punks were violent homophobic thugs?
Mike Burkett!
Don’t put me in this song I’m not dead yet
I’m just singing this to make sure you don’t forget to be cautious
More respectful, less obnoxious, cuz you’ve been getting hated
Making the cool things that you’ve done in your life negated
Cuz now musicians aren’t supposed to take positions or protest our shit conditions
And yes, we should all feel violated cuz our scene’s getting castrated and annihilated
GG used to be the most hated, then Ben, now it’s me
Cuz I guess I say things insensitively
Now all the great bands who got bigger
Wouldn’t dare to sing words that Exene, Patty, and Penelope sang with vigor
We all know that Jesus Christ was a figment that must have had
A lot of pigment in his skin
Cuz he was a Semitic Egyptian, didn’t you know?
But if there was there ever gonna be a resurrection
I prefer that it was Steve Soto
Steve Soto
Steve Soto
Steve Soto
Steve Soto
Steve Soto
Steve Soto
Steve Soto
[Fat Mike speaking - on the vinyl version]
I was fifteen when I first met Steve
It wasn't at an Adolescents show
It was an hj's rock and roll orphanage in the valley
He was playing in a band called The Strike
And after the show I went up to him
And said "great show, Steve"
He said something to me that I'll never forget
He said "I'm not Steve, I'm Larry from Channel 3
Steve left like an hour ago"
'Cause that was the kind of guy Steve was
It was a kind of a bummer
'Cause I never got to see him in Agent Orange
I never saw him in Legal Weapon
I never saw him in Joyride
When I finally met my bass playing hero
It was years later
He was back playing one of the greatest
And most influential punk bands of all times: 22 Jakcs
So I went up to him after the show and said
"It's been a while Steve, but it's great to see you again"
He said "Thanks, but my name is Joe"
I really fucking miss him
