Well Johnny went down to hell after old age took his life
I guess gambling on the fiddle didn't leave him on the Lords good side
The Devil met him at Hells Gate and screamed: "Johnny come on in
I got a special place down here for the best thats ever been"
Johnny said: "Not so fast there Scratch, I got a bet for you"
The Devil said: "I got your soul old man so what you wanna do"
"Well you've been down here forty years, waiting for me to die
And I don't want nothing less than to leave here with my life"
The Devil laughed right in his face and said: "I'll sweeten the pie
Not only will I keep your soul, I'll take Georgia as my prize"
Johnny take this lightning bolt for your fiddle bow
'Cus the Devil's dealing dirty and your fingers have grown old
If you win you get your life back and another tale to tell
If you lose all of Georgia goes to hell
Well Johhny said: "You've got the honors there, King of Lies"
And the Devil played a note so rancid even the darkness cried
Belphegor and Abbadon grabbed their strings and they joined in
And they played a tune that burned and grooved
And sounded just like sin
When the Devil finished Johnny's golden fiddle began to glow
And he snatched it up and struck it pure with his lightning bolt
All the Devil's demons, they let out a wretched scream
As they watched Johnny's fingers burnin' up them fiddle strings
When Johnny finished the Devil said: "Tell me, why must we fight
Imagine the hell that you could raise with me there by your side"
Johnny looked up from his bow with a crooked grin and said
"Satan, you still ain't got nothing on the best that's ever been"
Now Johnny got another shot of life on that good free Georgia land
And if you ask me that's pretty good for a gambling fiddling man
The moral is: Don't take a devil's deal, no matter what the bet
Unless of course your name's Johhny
The Devil ain't beat him yet
