Caity Baser has released her new single
'Running From Myself' via Capitol Records.
The track, written and performed by Baser alongside
Oh Wonder, features Motown-inspired production with live instrumentation, including a 14-piece string section and six brass players.
This follows the artistic direction established on her previous single '
Watch That Girl (She's Gonna Say It)', marking a departure from earlier releases like UK Top 40 hit '
Pretty Boys' and 'X&Y' from her 2024 Top 10 mixtape '
Still Learning'.
"I was in the studio with Oh Wonder working on some songs and one of us said 'it feels like you've been running from yourself'...and inspiration struck. Within 15 minutes the song was basically done, it all just came out so naturally," Baser says. "This song includes the lyric 'I ripped myself up into two / the bad for me, the good for you' - There have been times throughout my career when I would feel very sad or emotional about certain things, and I felt that I couldn't tell anybody, because everyone had this idea of me that I'm this confident, 'I don't give a fuck, nothing gets to me'-type of person - when actually that could not be further from the truth."
The BRIT Award-nominated artist continues: "People have told me that I've helped them with their confidence or to get over their exes, or feel amazing about themselves. For that I'm so grateful, but I felt like I'd have to put on a bit of a mask at times. It is who I am – I'm very energetic and silly, but then also, there's times where I don't want to be that. This is one of those songs that makes me want to just run as fast as I can - and scream."
