Trent Reznor's collaborative work with
Boys Noize is being given a formal release.
'Nine Inch Noize' arrives on 17th April through Interscope Records, collecting reworked versions of material spanning
Nine Inch Nails' catalogue alongside tracks from
How To Destroy Angels and Reznor and
Atticus Ross's score work.
The project grew out of the B-stage segments during Nine Inch Nails' Peel It Back Tour, which saw Boys Noize join the group mid-set to deliver electronic reimaginings of their songs. That tour sold out across Europe, the UK and North America, attracting more than 700,000 fans in total.
Reznor explained how the collaboration evolved: "The creative fulfillment of working on the Challengers and TRON scores with Boys Noize led me to think that including him in the Peel It Back Tour could be an interesting way to express NIN in more purely electronic terms live – a concept I've wanted to explore for some time. The result was so much fun for us we felt it was worth expanding and formalising in some way. On a whim I mentioned it would be cool to play a whole set as Nine Inch Noize in the Sahara tent at Coachella. Careful what you wish for… the next thing I knew we were designing a whole new show to present in the way it deserved. There's no surprise tour announcement – this Saturday is it. I'm taking Sunday off and excited to be working on new Nine Inch Nails music Monday – I'll see you when I come up for air. We recorded this album all over the place – some of it's live, some in studios, hotels, planes, etc. We had a lot of fun revisiting these songs and hope you enjoy. Listen LOUD."
Among the twelve tracks are reworkings of '
Closer', '
Came Back Haunted', '
Heresy' and '
She's Gone Away', alongside '
As Alive As You Need Me To Be' from the TRON: Ares soundtrack and 'Parasite' from How To Destroy Angels. Additional cuts include new versions of '
Vessel', '
Copy Of A', 'Me I'm Not', '
The Warning' and 'Memorabilia', plus an intro track.
Nine Inch Nails are also returning to Coachella on Saturday 18th April to perform as Nine Inch Noize, with Reznor confirming there are no further live dates planned beyond that appearance.
