Phoebe Green has announced her new EP ‘The Container’, set for release on 21st March, alongside sharing new single ‘What Are You Doing’.
The five-track EP was written and produced by the Manchester artist within her flat and her parents’ house in Lytham St Annes.
“I think these songs represent where I’m at in terms of taste, ability and emotional state. It’s been so freeing to be able to go back to recording in my bedroom and writing out of a sheer need to express myself, to document my growth and allow others into that,” Green says.
The new single ‘What Are You Doing’ follows previous release ‘Precious Things’. Speaking about the track, Green explains: “What Are You Doing explores the mourning of a pretty toxic relationship, coming to terms with how damaging it was in hindsight, but how thrilling and all-consuming it felt at the time. Now that it feels so far in the past it’s impossible not to be curious about what this person is doing, how they’re going about their day to-day-life and wondering if I still take up space in their mind.”
Working alongside producer and mixer Ric Levy to finalise the EP, Green adds: “I’d been listening to a lot of Imogen Heap, St Vincent, Caroline Rose and obviously Charli XCX and Chappell Roan, though I don’t feel as though I’ve intentionally drawn much influence from anywhere in particular. I think I’ve subconsciously shied away from writing big pop choruses in the past, but I really loved experimenting with this on this new EP.”
