About ANOHNI
Anohni Hegarty, formerly known as Antony Hegarty, is a British singer, songwriter, and visual artist based in New York City and Ireland. She has performed solo and as the lead singer of Anohni and the Johnsons, formerly Antony and the Johnsons. She began her musical career performing with an ensemble of New York musicians. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2000 on David Tibet's label Durtro. The band's second album, I Am a Bird Now (2005), received critical acclaim and won the Mercury Music Prize. In 2016, Anohni was the first openly transgender performer nominated for an Academy Award, receiving a nomination for Best Original Song for "Manta Ray" from the film Racing Extinction, alongside J. Ralph. Her debut solo album, Hopelessness, was released in May 2016 and received positive reviews, earning another Mercury Music Prize nomination and a Brit Award. In 2023, as Anohni and the Johnsons, she released her sixth album, My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross.
