About Broken Social Scene
Broken Social Scene is a Canadian indie rock band and musical collective formed in 1999 by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. The group has included between six and nineteen members, with core members also comprising Justin Peroff, Andrew Whiteman, and Charles Spearin. Longtime collaborators and members have included Evan Cranley, Sam Goldberg, James Shaw, and David French. Vocalists such as Leslie Feist, Emily Haines, Amy Millan, Lisa Lobsinger, and Ariel Engle have contributed to the band's studio albums and live performances. Many members participate in other Toronto-based musical projects, including Metric, Feist, Stars, Apostle of Hustle, Do Make Say Think, KC Accidental, Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton, and Jason Collett. The band's sound incorporates elements from its members' various musical endeavors and is sometimes described as baroque pop.
