Jamila Woods is an American singer, songwriter, and poet based in Chicago, Illinois. She was born on October 6, 1989. Woods graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep and Brown University, earning a BA in Africana Studies and Theater & Performance Studies. Her work explores themes of Black ancestry, Black feminism, and Black identity, often emphasizing self-love and her connection to Chicago.
