About Svalbard
Svalbard are a British post-hardcore band from Bristol, England. The band was formed in 2011 by co-lead vocalists and guitarists Serena Cherry and Liam Phelan, with drummer Mark Lilley. Since 2020, the band's lineup has included bassist Matt Francis. Their music primarily features a post-hardcore and post-metal sound, incorporating elements of black metal, crust punk, post-rock, and shoegaze. Their early material was compiled on the album Discography 2012–2014, released in 2015. Svalbard signed with Holy Roar Records in January 2015, releasing two albums: One Day All This Will End (2015) and It's Hard to Have Hope (2018). Following allegations of sexual misconduct against Holy Roar Records' founder, the band parted ways with the label and signed with Church Road Records three weeks prior to the release of When I Die, Will I Get Better? (2020). Their fourth album, The Weight of the Mask, was released in 2023 under Nuclear Blast Records. On 28 May 2025, Svalbard announced they would disband in 2026, with farewell tours and shows scheduled, including a UK tour in November 2025 and additional tours in Europe and Japan in 2026.
