About The Japanese House
The Japanese House is the professional moniker of Amber Mary Bain, an English indie pop musician born on 13 July 1995 in Buckinghamshire. Bain contributes vocals and plays guitar, synthesizer, and keyboard in her music. She decided to pursue a career in music as a teenager and began writing under the name The Japanese House in 2012. Her early work gained attention after the release of her first single, 'Still,' which premiered on BBC Radio 1. Bain's vocals and production style, along with her media presence, prompted speculation about her gender and identity. In 2015, she released her debut EP, 'Pools to Bathe In,' followed by 'Clean,' both of which incorporated indie pop, synth-pop, dream pop, folktronica, and electropop elements. She toured with her label mates the 1975 and Wolf Alice in 2015 and 2016 before headlining her own tours. Her third EP, 'Swim Against the Tide' (2016), was influenced by 1980s synth-pop.
It follows on from last year's album 'In the End It Always Does'.
