About The Smashing Pumpkins
The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band formed in Chicago in 1988. The founding members included lead vocalist and guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, bassist D'arcy Wretzky, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Since their reunion in 2006, the band has experienced several line-up changes, with Corgan remaining the primary songwriter and the only constant member. The current lineup features Corgan, Iha, and Chamberlin. The band is recognized for its diverse, layered sound, which has incorporated elements of gothic rock, heavy metal, grunge, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, shoegaze, dream pop, and electronica. Their debut album, Gish, released in 1991, was well-received by critics and achieved underground success. Their second album, Siamese Dream, released in 1993, contributed to their mainstream popularity despite a challenging recording process and has been regarded as a significant album within the genre. The band's third album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, issued in 1995, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, received a Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, and maintained critical acclaim.
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman joined Sombr for a duet at the festival.
